Voices of Experience: The Weight of Things Un-named (on Where to Go with the Heavy Things)

Source
by Joel McKerrow

When nothing makes sense anymore I turn to the ocean and to the river. I have found that grief is a grindstone and so is the ocean.

My friend had twins in 2015, one of them drastically sick. She has spent most of his five months with him in hospital. On New Year’s day he stopped breathing. The ambulance came, rushed him again to the hospital. I do not know what will happen with the little boy. Neither does she. What a way to start the new year. She told me that it is, “hard to know where to go with these experiences”. I wholeheartedly agreed. No words.

Pet Loss: Deciding When to Bury The Body

Source
Even out of unspeakable grief, beautiful things take wing. ~ A.R. Torres

A reader writes: I hope you don't mind if I vent to you, since I feel so very safe in your caring heart, and I'm just falling apart here lately, so need that professional and personal understanding only someone like you can give.

I’ve just returned from a two-week trip with my dear husband, who went all-out in planning our get-away, knowing how down I was about the death of [my cat]. I'd hoped this trip would somewhat rejuvinate me before I had to plan for the first anniversary of her death, and likely burial on the same day. But I'm finding I'm still not feeling at all ready to give up her body, even now.

In Grief: Lesbian Widow Finds No Support In Group

Source
A reader writes: My heart is breaking. My partner died some time ago and it feels like it was yesterday. I have had some very bad news about my health and I think I have been needing my partner to be here now. I just feel my heart can bear no more. My soul feels empty without her. I feel so different and it is so hard. I need to find other lesbians who have lost their spouse.
I tried out a grief support group yesterday and it was painfully hard. During the introductory "check in," one member who was just after me actually said she would not be able to continue if I was allowed to stay in the group. She said lesbianism is a sin.

A Wish For The New Year

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.  ~ Jill Jackson / Mark Miller

As we enter the first days of another new year, I share with all of you the thoughtful and wise message offered by Healing Doc Carl Hammerschlag, MD, in his weekly Schlagbyte on December 27, 2015:

The Light at Years End

I join with my favorite psychiatrist in wishing everyone "peace and continued growth as you walk in beauty in the healing light of love."
