In Grief: Feeling Inspired to Write

We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect. ~ Anaïs Nin

A reader writes: I'm not sure what I'm writing here..but felt compelled to say something.  I have been on a horrendous journey since my husband died 4 yrs ago.  Every trauma has hit the children and me.....tonight my son aged 13 who is very ill came to my bed.....he couldn't sleep and was in terrible pain...I don't know how or why..but for the second time over the past few years I did hands-on healing on his stomach....which was an incredible experience for him and me...and that resulted in our best chat together in four years, and he fell asleep.....all I realized was that I had not protected myself from taking his pain....and I became acutely aware of some "talents" that I have........I rushed downstairs and searched the Net, to find information on healing....and then psychic surgery...and then somehow I got to your site!!!

I felt a compulsion to read many poems etc listed....and felt incredibly emotional and then amazingly at peace....
Thank you!
Something incredible has happened tonight..and from feeling scared...I have felt whole again.........its time for me to write my experiences and those of my children's journeys....hopefully one day this will be published ...and can bring help to thousands of others.
Thank you for being part of my journey.

My response: I'm so very sorry to learn of the death of your husband four years ago, and I cannot imagine the difficulties you've encountered in the wake of that.  Please accept my heartfelt sympathy, and know that I am thinking of you.

Your lovely message warmed my heart and touched my soul ~ I am so pleased that through your pain you managed to find your way to my Grief Healing website last night, and so very gratified that you found some comfort there. I hope you will re-visit my Comfort for Grieving Hearts page from time to time, as I am always discovering more wonderful bits of wisdom and adding something new.

I also want to be sure you know about our Grief Healing Discussion Groups, which are available to you at no cost, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  It takes a bit of effort to get through the registration process (there for your privacy and protection) but it's such a warm, compassionate place to go when you feel a need for the support and understanding of others who are grieving ~ and it offers you a wonderful opportunity to share with them what you've learned along the way as well. The next time you find yourself surfing the Web in the middle of the night, I hope you will go there and at the very least, read some of the messages posted there.  No one can take away the pain of your loss, but you don't have to bear this burden all alone.  We are here for you and we care, deeply.

Your statement that it's time to write about your journey and share what you've learned with others reminds me of Lord Byron's brilliant observation: "But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling like dew upon a thought, produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think."  I hope that you will follow your dream, and let the writing begin.
